Turfgrass Weed Science
Research & Extension at The University of Tennessee
Who We Are
Our team is comprised of faculty, staff, and graduate students at the University of Tennessee. We conduct research and extension programs with the sole mission of assisting turfgrass managers in controlling problematic weeds of urban green spaces such as golf courses, athletic fields, residential and commercial lawns, and parks.
-
Applied Research
We conduct hundreds of research trials in field, greenhouse, and laboratory settings to develop strategies for controlling problematic turfgrass weeds such as Poa annua, goosegrass, crabgrass, as well as broadleaf weeds and sedges.
-
Focused Extension
We use the results of our research to develop meaningful educational programs for turfgrass managers currently working in Tennessee’s $5.8 billion turfgrass industry. These programs are delivered via in-person and digital platforms to extend the impact beyond the state border.
